AI and Telugu IT jobs: What changes in the next five years

It is jokingly said that in every second family in the Telugu states, at least one person works in the IT sector. There are lakhs of Telugu engineers in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune as well as in America and Europe. The only question for such a society now is — will artificial intelligence (AI) take away our jobs?

Generative AI tools like ChatGPT, Cloud, and Gemini can now write code, find bugs, create test cases, write documentation, and answer customer questions. What used to take a team weeks can now be done in days by a few people with the help of AI. This is changing the way companies hire.

• Data Engineering: Data is the fuel for AI. There is a demand for experts who can collect, clean, and manage it.

• Global Capability Centers (GCCs): Foreign companies are rapidly setting up their own technology centers in Hyderabad. These are bringing in high-level jobs.

• Domain + Tech: Special value for tech professionals with knowledge of sectors such as health, banking, and agriculture.

What should employees do?

1. Use AI tools without fear: Learn to use AI coding assistants in your daily work. Experts say that the "AI engineer" will replace the non-AI engineer.

2. Mastery of fundamentals: data structures, system design, databases — if these are strong, they can detect errors in the code written by AI.

3. Problem-solving skills: Thinking about "how to solve a problem" is becoming more valuable than writing code.

4. Communication: Talking to clients, understanding needs, leading a team — these are tasks that AI cannot easily do.

5. Continuous learning: Online courses, certifications, own projects — learn a new skill every year.

Instruction for students

Engineering students should not rely solely on their degree. Internships, own projects on GitHub, hackathons, and open source contributions will make your resume stand out. A grasp of mathematics and statistics is very useful in the AI field.

Every technological revolution has eliminated some jobs and created many more. While typists' jobs disappeared when computers came along, the software industry was born. So is AI. Opportunity for those who adapt, danger for those who don't — the choice is ours.
